Itinerary
Day 1: U.S. / Málaga
Overnight flight from the U.S. to Málaga.
Day 2: Arrive Málaga / Ronda
Arrive in Málaga and transfer to your countryside hotel located in the surroundings of Ronda.
Day 3: Reservatauro and Ronda
Private visit and lunch at Reservatauro, a breeding farm of fighting bulls and pure Andalusian horses located in a biological reserve recognized by UNESCO. Then, transfer to Ronda for a walking tour of this historic and picturesque town. Ronda is built on an isolated ridge of the sierra and it is split in half by a gaping river gorge, El Tajo. (3 Nights)
Day 4: Caminito del Rey – Spectacular Hike
Depart for a full day excursion ending in Gaitanes Natural Park. The route is 6 miles long and approximately 3 hours of pure enjoyment in a unique natural environment. Look for the Golden eagle, Spanish ibex, or foxes that live in the area.
Day 5: Málaga
After a brief panoramic drive, continue on foot into the Old Quarter, starting with a visit to the Picasso Museum. Pass Picasso’s birth home and Museum. Then, pass Picasso’s birth home and continue to the Alcazaba, a restored Moorish fortification dating from the 8th century. Next to the Alcazar visit the ruins of a Roman amphitheater from the 2nd century. After lunch free time in Málaga for shopping or visit another monument. After an early tapas dinner in Málaga; return to the hotel.
Day 6: Alpujarras & Lecrin Valley (Granada)
Depart for the Alpujarras Mountains and the region of Granada. Unveil the secrets of one of the pillars of the “Mediterranean Diet” - olive oil, an essential part of Andalucía’s economic, agricultural and social life, as well as its cuisine. Guided olive oil tasting followed by lunch in the Lecrin Valley. (4 Nights)
Day 7: Alpujarras
Full day experience in Alpujarras, a natural and historical region of Andalusía, a hidden corner of Spain which shows rural life as it was lived for centuries. The region lies on the snow-capped Sierra Nevada and adjacent valley. Great opportunities for hiking exploring trains that meander through orchards and cultivated terraces, woods, meadows, and crystal-clear mountain streams. Enjoy some of these trails and views. In the whitewashed, steep mountain villages shop for local crafts and pottery.
Day 8: Granada
Tour of the Alhambra palaces complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Spain’s single biggest attraction. This is the most remarkable monument to Moorish art in Spain. Explore the harem gardens of the Generalife, the summer palace of the Sultans. Finally, proceed to the Albayzin quarter for a walking tour of this historical neighborhood with wonderful views of the Alhambra. Free time in downtown Granada.
Day 9: Alpujarras
Full day tour in Alpujarras. Begin in Trevelez on the side of the Mulhacén Mountains, among ravines and hilltops. This town is the ideal starting point for a hiking day. Continue with a short hike between Capileira and Bubión villages and end with a lunch at a typical bar of the area. After lunch, time permitting, pass by other Alpujarras villages before transferring back to the hotel. Farewell dinner and private flamenco show performed by a local gypsy family.
Day 10: Departure
Check out after breakfast and transfer to the airport for flight to the U.S. and home.
