Scandinavian Adventure: Seeking the Northern Lights Aboard Havila

Overnight flight from the U.S. to Helsinki, Vantaa Int’l Airport.

Arrival in Helsinki and transfer to the hotel. (1 Night)

City tour of Helsinki. Overnight train to Rovaniemi. Luxurious sleeping cars with private beds, bathroom, and shower. Leaves at 9 pm and arrives at 9 am the next day. (1 Night)

Upon arrival in Rovaniemi, you will have a combined transfer/ guided tour including a visit to Santa’s Village. Lapland is the perfect destination to witness one of nature’s most spectacular phenomena – the Northern Lights. On average the Aurora Borealis appears about 200 times a year, so there are plenty of opportunities to spot them. This evening you will set out on a guided Northern Light chase. Overnight in Rovaniemi city. (1 Night)

Breakfast at the hotel. Today you continue further north as you travel from Rovaniemi to Inari. Inari is a very special place known for the Sami culture (an indigenous culture of the north) and tradition. Your home for the next two nights will be in a wilderness resort by the lake. The location offers possibilities to enjoy many different activities or to simply enjoy your breath- taking surroundings. A visit to the Sami Museum and nature center is also included. Aurora snow train adventure tonight. Wilderness Hotel. (2 Nights)

Breakfast at the hotel. You will have two exciting excursions today. Meet a local herder at his reindeer farm who will share fascinating stories of his life and the Sami culture. There will also be a short reindeer sleigh ride before returning to the resort. Your next excursion will be an Aurora Camp Visit – where we will have an open fire and warm drinks while waiting for the magic in the sky to appear.

Breakfast at the hotel, a bus journey will take you from Finland to Norway as you head towards Kirkenes.

You are likely to be impressed by the change of scenery as you head North towards the coastal village of Kirkenes. Kirkenes has a special location that shares a border with Russia.

Arrival in the Arctic. At Kirkenes board the Havila for a journey along the Norwegian coast. You will stop at many of Norway’s small coastal villages in-route from Kirkenes to Bergen.

Disembark the Havila where we will welcome you to the historic settlement charm of Bergen. Also known as the capital of the fjords. Upon arrival, you will have a tour of the city, once the center of the Hanseatic League’s trading empire. Farewell dinner and overnight in the city of Bergen. (1 Night)

Breakfast at hotel and transfer to the airport. Arrive in the USA in the afternoon or proceed to an extension to Stockholm, Sweden.

With a visit to the Kvistaberg observatory. (3 Nights)
