Day 2: Lima
City tour of Lima’s main colonial sites. After lunch, tour the private Larco Herrera Museum, which contains a fascinating collection of pre-Inca and Inca pottery, one of the finest in the country, including unique gold and silverwork and erotic ceramics from pre-Inca civilizations.
Day 3: Lima / Iquitos / Nauta / Board Delfín III
Fly to Iquitos, the farthest inland port in the world (over 2000 miles from the Atlantic Ocean). In Iquitos, take a scenic bus ride to Nauta and embark on the Delfin III. Settle into your cabin and gather for a welcome dinner as we begin our cruise into the Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve. This evening view the starlit skies of the Amazon from the top deck observation area. (4 Nights)
Day 4: Samiria River / Yanayaquillo
This morning board riverboat’s excursion skiffs to skim the Samiria River and its tributaries, where an abundance of wildlife hides in the deep rainforest, such as blue and yellow macaws, scarlet macaws, toucans, umbrella birds, monkeys, and river otters, capybaras, and more. Shipboard naturalists will pinpoint some of the amazing biodiversity of this region. After lunch, cruise through the creeks of Yanayaquillo, one of the best- preserved and protected zones of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve and a popular pink dolphin feeding spot.
Day 5: Yanayacu Pucate / Nauta Caño Creek
Cruise through the Yanayacu and Pucate Rivers, peeking into creeks and lagoons along the way. Search for more Amazon wildlife. You may even have an opportunity to swim in the jungle river along with the famous pink Amazon River dolphins. This afternoon, visit Nauta Caño Creek, known for squirrel and silver back tamarillo monkeys, dolphins, sloths, and birdlife. Scan the riverbanks for caiman and spiders, as well as insects of all colors, shapes, and sizes.
Day 6: Fundo Casual Jungle Trail / San Francisco community / Confluence of Three Rivers
Walk along the Fundo Casual jungle trail into the rainforest on “Terra Firma” (non-flooded forest). Your guides will identify the dynamic creatures and vegetation of the Amazon. Visit the community of San Francisco by a short skiff ride and jungle walk to meet local villagers who have called Amazonia their home for generations. This afternoon explore the Confluence of the Three Rivers—Unión de los Ríos. Here the Ucayali River confluences with the Marañón River upstream of Iquitos to form the main stem of the Amazon River.
