Program Overview

On this journey, you will explore cosmopolitan cities, world-famous art, expansive pampas, and magnificent national parks, vineyards for wine tasting, breathtaking snow-capped peaks, and powerful waterfalls. Stop for sumptuous meals, and enjoy a tango show. Your itinerary begins in Buenos Aires, the "Paris of South America" with its broad boulevards, 19th-century French architecture, world- famous art, and Parisian-style cafes. Travel to the pampas and enjoy an asado barbecue at a private estancia. Fly to Iguazú Falls, one of the highlights of South America with its luscious forests and tremendous cataracts. Walk in the shadows of the soaring Andes and fertile valleys and go for wine tasting amid the vineyards of Mendoza.

Itinerary

Day 1: U.S. / Buenos Aires

Overnight flight from the U.S. to Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Day 2: Buenos Aires

Arrive in Buenos Aires this morning. An afternoon walking tour will introduce you to this grand metropolis on the banks of the River Plate. Gather for a welcome dinner tonight. (4 Nights)

Day 3: Buenos Aires

Feel the European influence of this capital city as you tour the major sites. Highlights include the Plaza de Mayo, the National Cathedral, and Casa Rosada (Presidential Palace). See La Boca with its colorful tin houses and soccer stadium. Then, explore bohemian San Telmo, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Buenos Aires, and Palermo with its wonderful parks and gardens. In the evening, gather for dinner and then enjoy a tango performance at one of the most authentic tango venues in Buenos Aires.

Day 4: Buenos Aires

The morning is free to visit the wonderful stores and galleries of Buenos Aires on your own. In the afternoon depart on a specially arranged art tour of the Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires. Known as MALBA, this modern museum houses one of the world’s premier Latin American collections.

Day 5: Buenos Aires / San Antonio De Areco The Pampas

Spend today immersed in gaucho culture and the vast landscapes of the pampas plains. Visit the charming gaucho town of San Antonio de Areco. Continue to an authentic private estancia (ranch) for a traditional Argentinean asado meal. The amateur gauchos among us will have the opportunity to go horseback riding across the pampas.

Day 6: Buenos Aires / Iguazú Falls

Fly this morning to Iguazú Falls, one of the major highlights in South America. Roaring out of the jungle and hurtling over cliffs between Brazil and Argentina, the Iguazú Falls is one of the seven natural wonders of the world. These falls are one of the most impressive sights in the world, with 275 breathtaking cascades spread across a gulf of nearly two miles. Cross the border into Brazil to Foz do Iguaçu to explore a different perspective of the falls. (2 Nights)

Day 7: Iguazú Falls

Discover and explore these amazing cataracts today at Iguazú National Park (Argentina side). After lunch in the Park, take a Zodiac boat excursion to see the falls from the lower river, approaching the base of the falls. This boat exploration is a fantastic experience and a highlight of the trip!

Day 8: Iguazú Falls / Mendoza

Fly to Mendoza, the center of Argentina’s wine industry. The flight may offer spectacular views of the Andes mountains. Blessed by rich sunlight and a landscape of snowcapped mountains, Mendoza is one of the most successful wine regions on earth and a gourmet destination in Argentina. Depart on a city tour including its plazas and parks. On the return, visit the studio of a local artist to gain insight into the local art community. (3 Nights)

Day 9: Valle De Uco

Journey to the high-altitude wine-growing area of Valle de Uco. This area contains some of the most dramatic vineyard scenery in the region. The snowcapped Andes loom over the vineyards. Tour some of the most spectacular vineyards including Clos de los 7 followed by a tour of the Domain Bousquet, with its world-class quality wines. Then on to Andeluna vineyard which also includes the wine museum of La Rural. On the return trip learn about the Cipolletti Dam and the unusual irrigation system that makes this land so productive.

Day 10: Lujan De Cuyo

Head south with the Andes Mountains as a backdrop to the Lujan de Cuyo area, home to many of Argentina’s most famous wineries and best Malbecs. Possible visits include Achaval Ferrer Winery and Catena Zapata winery known for its pioneering role with the Malbecs.

Day 11: Mendoza / U.S.

Free morning in Mendoza. In the early afternoon transfer to the airport for a flight to Buenos Aires to connect with your international flight back to the U.S. and home.

Day 12: Arrive Home to U.S.

Arrive this morning in the U.S. and connect to your home airport.
