The Galapagos Islands

Located some six hundred miles off the coast of Ecuador, the Galápagos Islands make up one of the world’s greatest natural areas. Here, following Charles Darwin’s footsteps, encounter primeval terrain and many of the bird and animal colonies that inspired him to further his ideas about natural selection and the evolution of the species. The landscape and wildlife of these islands are amazingly diverse. There are volcanic heaps, lava fields, lush green vegetation in the highlands, and spectacular beaches. The unusual wildlife includes blue footed boobies, marine iguanas, giant tortoises and families of sea lions. There are unique opportunities for close encounters with the remarkably approachable wildlife of the Galápagos, as well as ample time to enjoy its unique flora from black mangroves to giant candelabra tree cactus.
